1aDDfromL Don Davis takes the stage. -- photo graciously provided by Laurie 1DD0022 Don gets his very own personalized satin jacket and promptly dons it. 2DD0023 3DD0025 3DDfromL Don thinks of himself first and foremost as an artist. He began college on an athletic scholarship and was majoring in art and physical education when serious injuries ended both his athletic aspirations and the funding for his education. A professor helped him find a job building and painting scenery. He moved to the stage when they needed an actor capable of lifting a tall actress over his head. 4DD0027 Don is tickled as one fan leads the room in singing a slightly belated, 5DD0031 Don gets choked up multiple times in talking to the crowd about his decision to leave Stargate SG-1 as a regular character. He thinks of the cast and crew, 6DD0032 As a fan, my favorite episodes of Stargate convey the sense of the team as a family that cares deeply about each other. It's hardly surprising, then, that one of the things I love most about attending the conventions is the obvious respect and friendship that exists among the cast members. Whether it's the affection visible when listening to the primary actors at a Creation event or the multitude of supporting actors I heard at Gatecon, it's evident that the people who act on the show are genuinely nice people who enjoy making the show. 7DD0034 8DD0035 Hammond is now the 9DD0036 The funniest moment on the Stargate set? He couldn't pick one because every day brought a new prank. 10DD0040 But then Don recounted how amusing it was that Chris Judge, whose flatulence Don explains as resulting from 11DD0041c Object lesson in always backing up original images BEFORE playing with color correction for the first time. Doh!

I accidentally saved the poorly corrected, cropped, and shrunk image over the original. Pity, too, because it was a great picture of Don that even in its horrible state I can't bring myself to toss it. 12DD0043 Don looks good after losing about 50 pounds, doesn't he? His brother had a heart attack when he was only 36 and Don had his own wake-up call when doctor's found an aneurism in his inferior aorta which required emergency surgery and a long post-op recovery. Hopefully, he'll be around for many, many, many years to come and we'll be able to say that we knew that great artist back when he was 13DD0045 Questioners lined up on either side of the stage and then alternated for asking the questions. Don frequently walked over to the side of the stage closest to the fan and made eye contact as they asked and he answered.

Wonderful in person but not a little hard on the old photo album. ;)
