UPDATES!

26 Jun 2006: Pics posted from the 2006 Houston Pride Parade. Enjoy!

05 Nov 2005: Two new fanfic recs posted.

24 Oct 2005: Lots of new site features, many of them experimental and all of them in the process of being added. Nothing is final, yet.

Pictopia -- All photos migrating to Pictopia. Must register to see anything larger than thumbnails. Still a work in progress. For now, the old photo albums are still posted. Eventually, they'll forward to the new albums.

Mailing Lists -- Sign up to receive notification of updates to the photo albums via e-mail.

Fan Fic recs -- Jalabert has been on my case to post a page of recs. We've agreed to collaborate, both submitting recs in a wide range of fandoms. For now, just a few recommendations are posted but we plan to add as time allows.

Blog -- This may well go the way of the do-do but for now this is a chronicle of what I learn about photography and various site enhancements.

Welcome to Mishtopia

Pictures of Houston Pride Parade 2006: Have you just found this site through Here TV? Welcome! The link will take you directly to pictures of the fabulous 2006 Houston Pride Parade. It's the largest celebration in the Southwestern United States, with attendance figures estimated to be about a quarter of a million happy people.

If you attended Pride Festivities in Houston or other locales, Here TV has a photoblog where they encourage you to share your pics. I didn't know about the blog before but I think it's a fabulous idea to get as many pics together as possible. The more they get, the more obvious it is that the GLBT is as wonderfully diverse as the larger population.

Disclaimers on the pics: They're about what you'd expect for photos taken long-distance, at night, with the subjects most often backlit. I've done a quick and dirty clean up on the photos but these are not the crisp, clear images I wish I'd gotten. For a slicker presentation, visit Houston Friends of Pride's website.

Best thing about Coppermine? New photo search capabilities. Alas, this feature relies on my having the time to enter keywords for more than 1600+ photos. I've done this for the most popular draws, Rachel Luttell and Michael Shanks, but everything else is a work in progress.

Please note that you must register if you want to see full-sized pictures.

Old photo albums (pre-July 2005) still available. See links below.

New Jersey/New York, August 2005 - The con, the cemeteries, and the good friends.

California, July 2005 - California, July 2005: A visit to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. Pics from the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is actually located in Escondidas. Saw the King Tut exhibit as well but no pics since they didn't allow cameras.

Dallas, Feb. 2005 : Another fine con, attended by Michael Shanks, Teryl Rothery, Christopher Judge, Don Davis, and Peter Williams. New for this year, Creation added a Cabaret, which required purchase of another ticket. Natch. As soon as I saw Teryl Rothery intended to perform, I bought two tickets without a second thought. Unsurprisingly, it was one of the convention highlights.

New Mexico, Nov. 2004 : We spent Thanksgiving with family, including our dogs, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico. We had a memorial service for Susan and enjoyed the mountainside peace of an area she loved.

New York, Aug. 2004 : Relaxed convention attended by Michael Shanks, Teryl Rothery, Christopher Judge, Don Davis, Rachel Luttrell (Stargate Atlantis), and Tony Amendola. I met a lot of very nice people there and had a fabulous time. I stayed afterwards and toured NYC with the peerless Judy-Lynne, who very nicely suffered through a marathon visit to the Egyptian collections at the Met.

Special thanks to Laurie, Dori, Helena, and Janie who kindly shared their photos from this event and granted permission for their inclusion in the con photos.

British Columbia, Jul. 2004 : Attended Gatecon in gorgeous Vancouver then spent some time after the con on Vancouver Island. First sci-fi convention I'd ever attended and not precisely what I expected. The highlight for me was having lunch with Christopher Judge; Joe took a tour of Bridge Studio as his "extra." We took both tours of shooting locations around Vancouver, both inside the city proper and its surrounding environs. The former tour was fabulous while the latter was, at best, intolerable. As always, British Columbia comes close to being the most perfect spot on the planet.

Virginia, Oct 2003 : Travelled to the Norfolk area to see my cousin, Diana get married. Mom and Aunt Mary Ann deserve wedding awards for assembling an impressive wedding and reception in a matter of months while simultaneously coping with hurricane aftermath: no electricity and insane traffic. Afterwards, we toured Williamsburg and visited Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Vancouver, Oct. 2003 : A short trip to the planet's most beautiful city. Joe had a show to produce so I tagged along and he took a few extra days so we could tour around together. Rained the whole time we were there and I loved every single minute. While Joe worked, I visited the UBC Anthropology Museum and took a side trip to Seattle for dinner with Candace, my cousin, and her new husband.

Alaska, Seattle, and Victoria, Sept. 2002 : My first ever two week vacation. A week spent in stunning Alaska. We spent a few days in Anchorage, eating the best meal either of us had ever had at the Crow's Nest atop the Captain Cook Hotel. We enjoyed a leisurely drive out the Kenai Peninsula, one of National Geographic's "10 Best Drives in the World," to the Alyeska Prince Hotel. Girdwood, Alaska seemed to be Cicely from television's Northern Exposure. We visited Portage Glacier, flew around Mt. McKinley, laughed at the Fly by Night Club, visited the Native American Heritage Center, rode horses, and dodged bears on the Eagle River.

Returning to the Lower 48, we switched gears for the urban world of Seattle, where we did all the requisite tourist things (Space Needle, Underground Seattle, Fish Market), stayed at my new favorite hotel: The W, and visited with friends from Whidbey Island. A hike in the Olympic National Rainforest and then it was on to Vancouver Island to visit Victoria, a touristy town with a great diversity of nationalities. But of course we had tea at the Empress so that I could tell Grandma all about it, walked all over the place, and had an absolutely spectacular time.
